During summers, while attending the University of Idaho, he worked on an Interregional Fire crew for the USFS, traveling the western US. After graduation he worked as a timber company forester and later returned to the USFS for a career. His work for the US Forest Service involved timber sale prep and administration, logging systems design, planning and operations staff as a certified silviculturist, acting District Ranger, and fire control for more than 35 seasons including Incident Commander on a North Idaho Fire Management Team. Since joining Inland Forest Management, Don has worked on conservation easements and management of the Wildland Urban Interface Fire Mitigation program for Boundary, Bonner and Kootenai Counties. In his spare time Don is an active “part-time” Christmas tree grower and farmer.
