Fall 2015

Log prices have generally been falling over the last quarter. A combination of weak lumber prices, plentiful burned timber, Canadian lumber imports and high log inventories at some mills has created a situation where log buyers have little room to enhance pricing. Cedar remains the one bright spot, but that species may also start to trend downward once more burned timber hits the market. Unless there are compelling reasons to harvest, it may be best to wait until next year to sell logs. —Michael Wolcott, ACF, CF
