Spring 2016

In essence, there has been little change in the log market over many months. Based on the difference in prices between December and February, it appears the market has dropped for a few key species. However, there was just a narrow window in December when some log purchasers bumped prices to increase log flow, with prices quickly returning to previous levels.

It’s always hard to know at this time of year what log values will be coming out of spring break-up, but current indications are there will be little change. Of course, an unusually long, wet spring, which would significantly lower sawmill log inventories, or stronger lumber prices, would brighten the log market.
